TOUR DETAILS

Nature:
Addo / Schotia

Depart from Beachwalk at 09:00am to Addo Elephant Park for 3 hour game drive followed by lunchTransfer to Schotia Game Reserve for afternoon game drive, coffee and snacks, followed by evening game drive, dinner and drinks. Transfer back to Beachwalk / Bayside arriving around 10:00pm.

Deep Sea Cruise

Transfer to Algoa Bay Yacht Club at 8.00am for an 8.30am departure returning at 11.30am to 12.00am. Light refreshments and snacks are served during the cruise and there is the option of having lunch afterwards at the yacht club. Tour starts with a harbour cruise after which we exit port and set a course for the islands. Both catamarans have a specially designed viewing platform which allows the guide to have the best possible view of the bay and thus chance to see any animals that may be present.

Bottlenose dolphins are common throughout the year and they are seen in schools of between 50 and 400. Humpback whales pass the bay from June until August on their way to their breeding and calving grounds off East Africa and return with their calves from October until the first week in January. The Southern Right whales start arriving in the bay during July and leave by the end of October.

They calf and mate within the protection of the quieter waters of the bay.

Tsitsikamma Adventures

Tsitsikamma – “place of sparkling waters”, stretches along 100km of wild, rocky, isolated beaches. One of the best known hiking areas in SA, the park abounds with Yellow-wood & Stinkwood forests, marine reserves, abundant birdlife and an extraordinary range of fauna and flora.

Depart from the B&B at 08:00 along the N2 to Tstsikamma (approx. 165km)

Stop at Flowerland Protea farm for morning tea. Continue on to Stormsriver and stop at Stormsriver Adventures where you will depart on the Woodcutters Journey or Tree Top Canopy Tour.

Depart for Tsitsikamma National Park, arriving at 14:00 where you have leisure time at the restaurant and beach in beautiful surroundings with breathtaking scenery – take bathing suits, sunblock and hat for optional swim and comfortable shoes for optional walking trails.

At 15:15, you depart for the famous “Big Tree”, a giant Yellow-wood thought to be 800 years old, leaving Tsitsikamma at 16:00 and returning to the guesthouse at 18:00

Culture:
Township tour

Depart from B&B, hear background of Townships while travelling through Russel Road (Native Stranger Location 1855) and Coopers Klooff, proclaimed in 1886. On the way, view:

· Railway Flats, where Anette du Plessis, the first white artist to stay in a township stayed

· Mendi memorial, to 607 members of the SA native Labour Contingent dies on the SS Mendi off the Isle of White in 1917

· Emlotheni Memorial, to the 6 ANC Comrades, the first to be hanged for defiance since 1964

· Red Location, started after Anglo Boer War, using British Barracks from the Uitenhage Concentration camps to house blacks from PE suffering from Bubonic Plague.

· Beer halls & shebeens

· New Brighton Station where Ray Mhlaba led 30 volunteers through ‘Whites Only’ entrance in first defiance act.

Also view Aya’s Ceramic Studio, Kwazakhele, Njoli Road, Zwide, Govan Mbeki & Ray Mhlaba’s graves and many more places of interest.

PE City tour

Depart from hotel to Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Campuses. Visit Humewood Golf Course Drive via Summerstrand towards beachfront area passing

- Piet Retief memorial, Hobie Beach, the Blue Flag Beach at Humewood, Bayworld + Kings Beach. Thereafter we drive to the city passing the PE harbour, the Campanile and Railway Station. We stop in the city centre at the Library, old Post Office, Feather Market Hall and City Hall. We view the oldest newspaper house in South Africa and the first Opera House.On top of ‘The Hill’ we stop on the Donkin Reserve to see the Edward Hotel, Grey Institute, Donkin Street, and the view over Algoa Bay. Next it’s on to No 7 Cuyler Street and Fort Frederick and then we go into St George’s Park Cricket ground. After stopping at Settlers Park, we pass the Horse Memorial, and travel on the freeway back to the hotel via South End.

Settlers Tour

Depart from B&B at 08:00 along N2 to Grahamstown (approx. 135km).

Visit 1820 Settlers Monument, the tour Grahamstown with history presentation.

Opportunity for tea break and visit the Cathederal, Victorian Museum, Camera Obscura and other places of interest.

Depart Grahamstown for Bathurst on route 67, arriving at 12:00 and visiting Tpoescope and St John’s Anglican Church for a ‘history talk’.

Lunch at the Summerhill Pineapple Farm, wherafter you depart for Port Alfred for a tour of the town and final comfort stop before departing for Port Elizabeth via Kenton on Sea and Alexandria, arriving home at around 17:00.

Valley of the Ancient Voices

08h30 – Leave Beachwalk / Bayside for tea in Grahamstown.

11h00 – Start Bushman trail to their Sacred Valley. Walk via ancient ritual sites, past caves filled with rock art, to a large Mystical Pool. Lunch provided, picnic style – a private experience to assimilate the morning’s adventure.

14h30 – Return to P.E. via Riebeeck East, passing many varieties of game. Visit Mooimeisiesfontein – the farm of Piet Retief, a Voortrekker leader. Travel over the scenic pass to Alicedale.

16h00 – Tea at Bushman Sands Hotel where we view many replicas of Bushman art and then leave for your B&B.

This tour is suitable for moderately fit people. Maximum of 12 pax.

The main final destination for Day Trips is Loerie Station (72km), unless otherwise advised. The route passes through the Western Suburbs of Port Elizabeth, stopping at the Van Stadens Bridge, allowing passengers to walk over this amazing engineering feat with an awesome view of the gorge, offering some great photographic opportunities. You can choose to remain on board for the crossing.

COACHES

Each coach is unique with soft leather seats, accommodating different numbers of passengers depending on the compartments, and comes equipped with a toilet. Please note: The toilets may only be used whilst the train is travelling.

LOCOMOTIVE POWER

The locomotive power utilised for the trip (Class 91 Diesel Electric units; or steam locomotives Kalahari NG15 or Garratt NGG16) differs according to circumstances, such as weather or the condition of the engine.

PLEASE NOTE! It is a requirement by TFR that should the Fire Danger Risk be high due to any hot, dry or windy weather, steam will NOT be permitted to run and a NG Diesel Electric locomotive will be used. The Society acknowledges this requirement of TFR and reserves the right to make the necessary change, even at the last moment.

DESTINATIONS

At Witteklip Station, passengers who choose this destination will be hosted by Falcon Rock Trading Post. Located at the foot of the picturesque Lady Slipper Mountains, they offer a boma-style restaurant with big screen TV, sign-posted walks, childrens’ play-park and touch farm. Please note: If Witteklip is your destination, you will not cross the Van Stadens Bridge.

Passengers alighting at Thornhill Station have the choice of two destinations:

Jägerhof Game Reserve or Thornhill Hotel. Jägerhof Game Reserve, located just outside Thornhill is set on 160 hectares of coastal forest and grassland, with stunning sea views over the bay as well as indigenous forest. Game species include Buffalo, Eland, Giraffe, Zebra, Nyala and Impala. Thornhill Hotel offers a combination of wonderful rural hospitality and superb food in a relaxed environment.

Loerie Station is the final destination for day-trippers and travellers are welcomed to enjoy their own packed picnic, or pre-order a braai fire or a set lunch from our caterer. Picnic tables and chairs are provided either in the precincts of the station or on the lawn under the trees.

St Francis – Cape & Port, Jeffreys Bay

Depart from guesthouse at 08:00 heading to Humansdorp via van Stadens Nature Reserve. See the African Renaissance at the Kouga Cultural Centre in Humansdorp and stop for tea at the Seal Point Café.

Visit Seal Point Lighthouse and cape St. Francis, collecting shells and enjoying the view.

Visit Port St. Francis and travel along the canals of St. Francis Bay

Lunch in Jeffreys Bay at the Savoy Hotel with time for shell shopping and viewing at the Charlotte Kritzinger Shell Museum. Leave Jbay after visiting the famous Super Tubes surfing spot, home of the Billabong Pro held here in

June/July, returning home around 16;30.

Ibayi Sunshine Saunter

This tour takes you out of town past our exquisite Western Beaches, through beautiful countryside and on to one of our interesting Game Parks. Hear stories of shipwrecks, the history of the early farmers and see the new developments.

Depart at 09:00, travel along Marine Drive past Cape Recife Lighthouse and Schoenmakerskop. Pass Seaview and Beachview (see the Dolphins and Whales in season). See the sweep of the bay of St. Francis from the hill overlooking the beautiful Maitland river and the endless moving dunes.

Then to Kragga Kamma Game Farm or Seaview Lion Park for tea.

Return via old historical roads through country suburbs.

See the new developing areas and elegant homes, arriving home in time for lunch.

2. Packages must be confirmed and 50% deposit paid at least 30 days prior to date of arrival.

3. Balance of package price is payable on arrival.

4. Cancellation terms

a. Cancellations more than 30 days prior to arrival – 10% of total price payable

b. Cancellations between 15 and 30 days prior to arrival – 25% of total price payable

c. Cancellations between 7 and 15 days prior to arrival – 50% of total price payable

d. Cancellations less than 7 days prior to arrival – 75% of total price payable

5. Cost of any trip or tour cancelled due to weather conditions will be refunded in full

6. Sequence of days on which trips take place may be changed to suit tour operators schedule
